FreightScan introduced the FL1000 in response to cargo facilities with high volumes of skidded cargo and cross-docking facilities. In early 2008, while visiting a large trucking warehouse, it became clear that for some companies, routing workflow through a single location for dimensioning cargo was going to have too great an impact on operations. FreightScan was presented with the challenge to develop a forklift mounted system that would function similar to a forklift mounted scale, meaning, a simple interface on the forklift, hardware that would capture data in seconds, and the ability to transmit that data wirelessly. Towards the end of 2008, FreightScan was pleased to announce the successful completion of this product, the FL1000.

With a simple yet robust mount, the hardware for the FL1000 is installed directly on the mast of the forklift. The system is designed to install at a height appropriate for moving in and out of the majority of trailers. Scans can be triggered from either a barcode or a small keypad inside the cab. Scan time is 1 second, and a retrievable record is created for each waybill with the captured dimensions and images of the cargo.
The FL000 dimensions cargo on a standard 48" x 40" skid up to 50" high. Field data collected from both freight forwarding and trucking facilities indicates that on average, 75% of total shipments are 50" high or less. Common configurations are such that the FL1000 can capture dimensional data for a significant portion of volume, with the remaining oversized pieces scanned by the FS100, to deliver maximum flexibility and increased profitability.
